How to Play

Notes

  • Credit goes to Reddit.
  • The OP describes this as very high risk. It can lead to permanent haunting, physical scarring, mental scarring, headaches, leg cramps, heart attacks and death.
  • OnanH states, “Wings of a Celestial is not your typical ‘scary party game,’ the consequences are very big and very real. The ritual was used by many, in many ways, but, the most known by wiccans who wished to end their lives inconspicuously. Now it is more commonly used to attempt to gain the ever wished for immortality.” In short, what you get from the ritual depends on the wish of the one performing it.
  • Some of the instructions are rather vague, but I have posted what there is. There is no information on what to expect once the ritual is over.

Equipment

  • A sharpie.
  • A friend.
  • Chalk.

Steps

  • Take a sharpie and draw a pair of angel wings on your body with a few stray stars in the middle. The wings can be anywhere on your body. This is where your scar will be after the ritual is over.
  • On the night of the full moon, go outside.
  • Stare at a single star. This will be your celestial.
  • While you look at the star, have a friend draw seventeen chalk circles around your body. There is no information as to whether these circles should interlock or be whole circles.
  • Repeat out loud, ‘I see, I do, I plead, you may look into my deepest darkest memories and see what I really truly intend to do here.’ You should feel a chill, you must continue to look at the star without looking away.
  • Cross your fingers over your heart.
  • Walk forward and smile at your star.
  • Go to bed.

Safety first

This is one ritual that almost everyone seems to consider especially dangerous.

Risk level

Very high. I think the main risk factor is that the instructions are very vague, so you are at risk of doing something incorrectly and as a consequence, changing or perverting the ritual into something else. You have no real idea who or what you are summoning. There is no information about what will happen after you complete the ritual either, so you cannot prepare in advance.

Would I play?

No.

How to Play

Notes

  • Credit goes to trikyreaper of Reddit.
  • The OP describes this ritual as very high risk. You have been warned.
  • This ritual can only be performed between 8.00pm and 4.00am. Once the ritual has begun, these are the danger hours when it may visit you.
  • The OP doesn’t mention the need for a torch, but this is a step I have added because I don’t feel you can set up the ritual safely without any source of light.

Equipment

  • A mobile phone/cell phone.
  • 4 identical mirrors.
  • A piece of paper.
  • Tape.
  • A six sided die.
  • A pencil.
  • A torch.

Steps

  • Mark your mirrors 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  • Turn off all lights in your house.
  • Using the torch, place the mirrors in the four corners of the largest room of your house. The mirrors should be facing in toward the center of the room. Turn off the torch and set it aside.
  • Sit in the middle of the room.
  • Call the sixth number in the contact list on your phone and end the call after exactly two seconds. If the call is answered then you must abandon the ritual for that evening and may only begin again after twenty four hours have expired. If the call is not answered or you only hear static then you have successfully drawn its attention and may continue.
  • Roll your die. You must abandon the ritual for twenty four hours if you roll a 5 or 6.
  • Now write the number you rolled (1 – 4) onto a  piece of paper and then tape the paper onto the corresponding mirror. Do not look into any of the other mirrors while doing so and after you have done this, return to the middle of the room.
  • Stare directly into the mirror that has the number taped onto it. Do not look behind you and do not turn around no matter what you might hear. Without forcing yourself to blink, wait until you have blinked twenty two times exactly. At this point close your eyes and walk toward the mirror with the paper taped to it.
  • Remove the piece of paper (without opening your eyes) and then return to the center of the room.
  • You may now open your eyes. Roll the die, but this time if you get a 5 or 6, simply roll again. You should now repeat the previous steps of writing, taping and retrieving the paper until all four numbers and all four mirrors have been used. During this, if you get a number you have previously had, roll again until you get one you have not used.
  • Once this is done you should immediately head to your front door, place the piece of paper outside and run to any room in the house that does not contain the mirrors.
  • You have now opened a portal and it will come through one of the mirrors and find its way to the center of the room, where you were previously sitting.
  • You must be very quiet. If it hears you, it will come for you. Retrieve the piece of paper you left outside of your front door, but leave the front door open. This part is especially important as if the front door is closed, it will not leave.
  • The paper gives you some protection. You must trust in this because the next step is to enter the ritual room without looking into the mirrors or at it. Lay the piece of paper in front of it, but ignore any attempt from it to make contact and do not make a sound.
  • Go to sleep. If you cannot sleep immediately, feign sleep. It would be very dangerous if it realises you are awake. You cannot move until after 4.00am.
  • When you wake, if the front door was left open, it will be gone. On top of the paper will be the thing you want most.
  • The price you pay for this is that it will return to your home every night while you sleep. You can never let it know that you are awake.
  • You can stop it returning at any time by calling the sixth number in your contact list again and saying, ‘you are prohibited from entering the sanctuary.’ There does not seem to be any guarantee that this will work. Do not do this once darkness has fallen as it will either be on its way, or already in your house. This cancels the ritual, but you will forfeit whatever you have won thus far. While continuing the ritual, do not remove the mirrors from the ritual room or you will pay a terrible price.
  • Important rules: Do not make any noise while it is in the house. Do not break the mirrors. Do not remove the mirrors unless you cancel the ritual. Never look at it. Do not turn on the lights. Do not leave your home between 8.00pm and 4.00am.

Safety first

The OP mentions significant risk of physical or mental injury associated with this ritual. Rituals involving mirrors are considered very dangerous as in theory, you are opening a portal that could potentially lead anywhere.

Risk level

High. Plus, no one really wants to see themselves reflected from four angles, do they?

Would I play?

No.

Five Questions Game

How to Play

Notes

  • Credit to caitashbyx.
  • This ritual can only be done on Halloween.
  • It can only be played between 2 and 5am.
  • This is a particularly nasty ritual. I am adding it here for completeness, as one of my aims is to document as many of these games as possible and chart their evolution over time. I really don’t recommend anyone plays this one.

Equipment

  • A mirror.

Steps

  • Enter a pitch black room just before 2am on Halloween.
  • Gaze upon the mirror.
  • When you feel a chill pass across your body, place your hand against the mirror and say, ‘I accept.’
  • If conditions are right then you should see an infant without flesh appear in the mirror.
  • The infant will ask five questions about things that have happened in your life. For each question you answer incorrectly you will lose one of your senses. For each question you answer correctly you will be able to speak one name.
  • Once the five questions have been asked, cover the mirror and leave the room, closing the door behind you. Do not sleep before 5am has passed.
  • Within a few days, harm will come to those named in the ritual.

Safety first

Staring into a mirror led to the downfall of the Queen in Snow White. You may also want to avoid old women bearing apples. In fact, avoid all food provided by strangers in the woods.

Risk level

High.

Would I play?

No way.

The Mirror Game

How to play

Notes

  • In theory you can play this game as many times as you want. However each time you play you should be aware that minor, as well as major changes may happen. As such, you have no idea what may await in the parallel world.
  • Changing things in your life can cause a spiral of events you did not anticipate. You should be prepared for this.
  • There is a cost for playing this game. For example, some have said that wishing someone was still alive could cause someone else in your life to die instead.
  • This game can only be played on turning days/the equinox; Halloween, Yule, Summer Solstice etc. Check out the pagan calendar for days when this might work.
  • If you see anyone else appear in the mirror, immediately abort the game. They are attempting to cross over.

Equipment

  • 2 black candles.
  • 1 white candle.
  • A large, ideally floor length mirror.
  • A lighter/matches.

Steps

  • This game must be played at night in full dark. Otherwise, the time doesn’t matter.
  • Choose a place to play. This must not be your bedroom or any other place where you could fall asleep after the game.
  • Place the 2 black candles either side of the large mirror.
  • Place the white candle in the middle, in front of the mirror.
  • Light the candles.
  • Turn off all other lights in the house.
  • You should sit in front of the mirror and concentrate on your reflection.
  • Think about something in your life that you wish was different. This can be major or minor, but there is a cost involved and you won’t know what it is until afterwards.
  • While still looking at your reflection focus on the thing you want to change and imagine how your life might have been different had things gone the way you wanted.
  • This is your final chance to abort the game. If you wish to do so, blow out the candles and destroy the mirror. Make sure every single shard is removed from your home. It may be best to break the mirror outside, away from your home.
  • Reports differ at this point.
  • The first version says you should now reach out and attempt to put your hand through the mirror. Be aware that once you do this, there is no turning back. You must pass through the mirror. You can never return to the previous one, no matter what awaits you on the other side. This is a new world in which your wish has been fulfilled. Note that you cannot anticipate what effects your wish may have had on your life, or the rest of the world.
  • The second version says simply that you should go to bed. Once you awake the world will have changed around you. Even if your wish was not granted, the world may have changed in subtle ways.
  • It is said that there is a gatekeeper that guards the passage between worlds. Those who have played this game more than once have reported seeing someone in the mirror behind them. Initially this figure is far away, but every time you play the game she gets closer. You must never let her reach you. Even if you only play the game once she will be aware of you from then on. You will be in danger every time you are in a dark room with a mirror and should avoid playing any other summoning games which involve opening portals.
  • Never sleep in the room with the mirror. Not only do you need to worry about the gatekeeper, but you have opened a portal that can never be closed. Other things may try to take advantage of this. It may be wise to keep the mirror surrounded by a ring of salt.
  • Once you have played the game once, you may only play again using the same mirror.

Safety first

Broken mirrors leave shards that can stick into your feet at the worst possible time.

Risk level

High.

Would I play?

No. My current life is okay.

Happy Halloween

This is the article that I meant to write last year and ran out of time. Better late than never.

Please note that credit for the supplied information should be given to the sites detailed under ‘websites.’

Halloween Facts

  • Evolved from the Celtic holiday of Samhain (pronounced sah-win) and has been dated back to 5 B.C.
  • The modern name is said to come from “All Hallows Evening,” Hallow being the Old English word for holy person.
  • It was traditionally a time to prepare for the shift from a time of plenty to a time of darkness, cold and death. As such, in the ancient world it marked the final harvest of the year. Crops would be placed into storage and the cooking fires would be extinguished. The Celtic priests would meet amongst oak trees (representing strength) and light fires, offering sacrifices to thank the summer Gods and appease the coming Gods of wintertime. An ember from these sacred fires would be given to each family so that a new cooking fire could be started, keeping their homes warm and banishing any evil spirits that may wish to harm them during the winter months.
  • It was also believed that the boundaries between the realm of the living and dead were thinnest at this time. The dead may return to harm the living, blight their crops or spread sickness.
  • Samhain festivals traditionally lasted 3 days. People wore costumes made from the skins of animals to represent various Gods.
  • Although the holiday originated in the United Kingdom it was taken to the USA by the first large wave of Irish immigrants. At the time it was common for children to go out “guising” on October 31 to beg for food or money. Those who refused would often find themselves victims of pranks – chalk drawings on the door or similar.
  • Halloween became more popular in the 1920s when people began to host lavish parties and stores soon began to sell pre-made costumes. Celebrations were minimal during WWII due to sugar rationing. It became more similar to the holiday we enjoy today in the 50s and 60s. At this time trick or treating was thought to be wholesome family fun. Interestingly this coincided with the rise of the suburban neighbourhood.
  • It is believed that the Church attempted to reduce the importance of traditional pagan festivals such as Samhain. It was a subtle takeover, with the focus on re-appropriation of traditional holidays. As such November 1 became All Saint’s Day, celebrating those saints who did not have their own holy day.

Tradition

  • Masks and costumes were worn in an attempt to mimic, blend in with, or appease evil spirits.
  • The Jack O Lantern is a carved pumpkin or turnip. Do you want to know why it is called a Jack O Lantern? You can read about it here.
  • Trick or treating is said to be similar to the medieval practice of “souling” when poor folks would beg for food or other items in return for prayers to appease the dead. In medieval times people would make “soul cakes,” (bread and currant puddings). Children would beg for these treats. Trick or treating is even mentioned in Shakespeare. In The Two Gentleman of Verona (1593) Speed accuses his master of “puling” (whimpering) like a beggar at Halloween.
  • The traditional colours of Halloween are orange and black. Orange represents the harvest, while black symbolises the death of the summer and the darkness of the coming months.
  • The apple was sacred in ancient times and was often used for divination. Hence the idea for bobbing for apples – you are searching for your future. Like wedding cake it is believed a woman can put a piece of her bobbed apple under her pillow to dream of her future love.

Hitori Kakurenbo Game (One man Hide and Seek) version 2

hidenseek

(c)  google images. All images remain the property of their creator.

Disclaimer: I am posting this for fun and because people enjoy reading about these things. If you choose to play any of these games then you do so at your own risk.

How to play

Notes

  • I have previously blogged about Hitori Kakurenbo. I originally read about another version of this on Wish, Kill, Smile, Die and after doing a bit of research, thought I would include it here.
  • The house must be dark. If there is the slightest illumination then he will find you.
  • If you set an alarm to mark the end of game time, do not keep it with you or he will find you before you can speak the proper words to conclude the game.
  • This game must be played alone. Make sure you are alone in the house.
  • Only use a single drop of blood.
  • This game may only be played once. If you have played Hitori Kakurenbo before, do not play this.
  • It is said you can summon different spirits depending on the colour candle you use.
  • The game shouldn’t ever be played for longer than 2/3 hours, ideally play for a short period of time to reduce the chances of him finding you.
  • Do not turn on the lights again until you have bid the spirit goodbye.

Equipment

  • Two bowls.
  • A sterile pin.
  • Chicken bones (just go with it).
  • A lighter/matches.
  • 1 black candle.
  • A clock to measure time. An alarm to mark the end of the game time.

Steps

  • Pick a place to play.
  • Cover any windows and reflective surfaces. Since you’ll be flailing around in the dark, you may wish to remove anything you’re likely to trip over.
  • The game begins at 23:55.
  • At 12:00 exactly enter the room with the objects. The objects must stay out of the room until this time.
  • Place the bones into the first bowl, putting it on the ground to your left.
  • Light the candle and say, ‘bones, you may see.’
  • Leave the room immediately with the candle, pin and second bowl.
  • Outside the room prick your finger and let ONE drop of blood fall into the bowl.
  • Re-enter the room with the bowl and candle and say, ‘blood, you may see.’
  • Leave the room immediately.
  • Enter the room a final time and say, ‘flesh, you may not see, but you may find. The game begins in five minutes and will last x minutes (replace x with desired play time). You are bound to this house until I say the game is done’
  • Blow out the candle. He is coming.
  • You have exactly five minutes to find a hiding spot. Do not hide in the room with the bowls, remember, you gave them permission to see.
  • You may him him moving around in search of you, but you may not. He is old and cunning and will attempt to trick you. Do not leave the hiding space for any reason until the game time has expired.
  • When you hear the alarm speak aloud, ‘your time is done. The game is won. Goodbye.’
  • Do not enter the game room until day has dawned.
  • Dispose of everything used to play the game by burying it separately deep in the earth. The candle should be broken into pieces. For safety, ensure there is running water between you and the pieces.

Safety First

  • If you do play this, make sure the pin/needle is sterile to avoid infection.
  • Make sure you aren’t going to trip over anything in the dark.

Risk level

High. This game is very dangerous and if he finds you it will result in death or possession.

Would I play?

Nope.
