How to Play

Notes

  • Credit goes to AksysGamer
  • This is a psychological ritual similar to some I have previously posted; Doors to the Mind and In The Eye of the Giant.
  • Originates from a Native American ritual.
  • You should have a clean body for this ritual, so bathe and avoid alchol and drugs for a while beforehand.
  • Your power object should be should be something very familiar to you that will help you snap out of a trance like state. It could be a childhood toy, a photo of someone important to you, or anything along those lines.

Equipment

  • 2 candles.
  • A lighter/matches.
  • 4 mirrors, ideally full length.
  • 2 chairs.
  • 1 power object.
  • 1 mobile phone/cell phone.
  • 1 mobile phone/cell phone charger.
  • A notebook/sketchbook (if you are more artistic).
  • A compass.

Steps

  • You will need a windowless room, or a room in which all windows have been covered. The idea behind this is that this ritual uses sensory deprivation.
  • Using the compass, set one of the four mirrors at each of the four corners (North, East, South and West).
  • You will be sitting on one of the chairs. Place it facing whichever of the four corners that you feel the most drawn to. The second chair should be placed in the opposite direction, facing the opposite corner. So your chair will be facing a mirror and the other chair will be behind you when you sit down, facing the opposite mirror.
  • Place one candle in front of your chair and the other in front of the second chair. This should create opposing light sources.
  • Put your notebook/sketchbook in front of you, with the pen/pencil nearer to the mirror. Your power object should be placed close to you.
  • Consider what you hope you get from this ritual; advice, understanding, self awareness. Once you have decided this, write it down on a piece of paper.
  • Turn off as many electronic devices and outside sources of light as you can.
  • Once you have fixed what you are searching for in your mind, go to bed.
  • Put your mobile phone/cell phone onto charge and place it beside you.
  • Set an alarm for exactly 02:58. You need to ensure you get exactly three hours of sleep. Set another alarm for 07:00. Go to sleep with the question fixed firmly in your mind.
  • When you are woken by your alarm, use the light from your mobile/cellphone to find your way back to the room where your ritual is set up.
  • If anything has changed in that room then do not proceed. Go to another room and wait until your next alarm goes off at 07:00.
  • If all is as it should be, sit in your chair and pick up your notepad/sketchbook. Light the candle that is in front of you. From now on this is your light source, don’t use your phone.
  • Without blinking, gaze into the mirror in front of you. Think about what you want to know and concentrate as you continue staring into the mirror. Your goal is to reach what scientists call Hypnopompia, the moment before Lucid Dreaming. This might take some practice.
  • Do not, at any point, look into any of the other mirrors. There is nothing to say what will happen, but the OP’s grandmother said it is a very bad idea. If you accidentally do so, leave the room immediately, closing the door behind you.
  • Breathe in slowly and then exhale. Continue meditating on whatever you are seeking. When you feel it is time, pick up the notepad/sketchbook and begin writing or drawing. You will know when.
  • Leave the room when the 07:00 alarm sounds. Do not remain in the room past 07:15. You may leave early if what you see or feel disturbs you.
  • You may need to do this several times until you reach the proper state for it to work.

Safety first

As with any of these games that promise greater self awareness, it is worth  bearing in mind that it can leave us feeling vulnerable or unhappy. This game is what you make of it, so if you are in a negative place, it may be worth trying something else.

Risk level

Low. It isn’t a summoning ritual. Being surrounded by four mirrors might not be a good thing if you haven’t started that diet you’ve been thinking about for six months though – personal experience.

The Tulpa Ritual

How to Play

Notes

  • Credit goes to Augur-Jearn of Reddit.
  • The idea behind this ritual is to summon what the OP calls a Servitor.
  • Remember, according to myth, naming something gives it power.
  • Note that the OP states that you may come up with a name, only for this ritual not to work, or for it not to feel right. The way the ritual reads, it is almost as though you are supposed to have a name pop into your head that will just feel right to you. You shouldn’t be thinking too hard about it.
  • Although this ritual seems to claim that you should be able to create something yourself, several parts of it are similar to older rituals that are intended to call upon things already out there. The idea is that you name these formless entities, giving them power and in doing so, can bind them to you, but only for a time. The more people that know of said entity, the more powerful it would become, which might be why you are never supposed to share the name with anyone else.

Equipment

  • A notebook.
  • Pen/pencil.
  • A sterile needle.

Steps

  • You must pick a name for your Servitor. The name should then be reversed. So if your chosen name is Billy Bob, then your Servitor would be Bob Yllib, which as we will all agree, is a spiffing name for a demonic best buddy. Remove the vowels from the name.
  • You must remember the name, but do not keep it written down anywhere. You should also design a shape that will represent your new friend.
  • Following this you should focus on this shape, meditate upon it as frequently as possible. Your thoughts should either bring this thing into life, or allow something already in existence to come through to our world using your will. You should be patient with this part.
  • When you feel that you have allowed enough time for your Servitor to take shape, so to speak, then you are ready to move onto the next phase.
  • Fill your sink with water.
  • Prick your finger and allow drops of blood to fall into the water. Blood magick would indicate that the more blood you give the entity, the more bound to you it will be – however, it could also mean that said entity becomes more powerful than you would like.
  • Draw your symbol on a piece of paper and drop it into the the bloody water. Just think, you could be watching Jessica Jones right now (it’s good). Get it wet enough for the paper to dissolve, or be ripped into pieces small enough to go down the drain. Note, I accept no liability for either demonic entities, or plumbing issues following this.
  • Say aloud, ‘This signifies our friendship [Bb Yllb, or whatever your Servitor’s name is]. You are now bound to me by my sigil, doused in my blood.’
  • Remove the plug (that came out as pug then, remove any small dogs too) and allow the water, plus paper to flow out. As it does, say, ‘Our friendship has transcended into the spirit world! I declare again that you are bound to me by blood and sigil.’
  • Turn off all lights and leave all doors standing open (except your front and back door). You must now leave your house for at least ten minutes. It would be very dangerous to remain.
  • Once you return to the house, you should feel a subtle difference. Now you have brought your Servitor forth, it requires a shape. For the next month you should meditate on how your Servitor would look. Perhaps it is a cat, Angelina Jolie, a pocket watch. Whatever does it for you, no judgement.
  • As time goes on you should start to notice subtle attempts at contact. The more powerful the Servitor, the less subtle these will be. You may now begin to talk to it and meditate upon whatever you want its help with.
  • If time has passed and nothing is happening, but you feel the name was correct, the OP offers the following advice. Get an item, anything really, and have it serve as your Servitor’s vessel. Create another sigil on paper and burn it. Place the ashes into the vessel. This should help.
  • The OP says that you will need to feed your Servitor from time to time. The Servitor will let you know what it wants. You may not like what it asks for. But if you do not feed it then it may break free of you.

High. I have said on this blog several times that while I am a skeptic, I do not advise using blood magick in any form. Games like this can have a psychological impact on people and there are a lot  of stories out there about what has happened following one of these sort of games involving blood. How to play

Notes

  • Credit: Apologies, can’t remember where I found this originally. Please let me know if it is yours.
  • Do you think you’re being followed by a monster? Having bad dreams? This gives you a chance to confront the monster.
  • This can only be played on a new moon night in December.
  • Your bed sheets must be completely white. Never use black or red sheets.

Equipment

  • Plain white clothing and sheets/blankets.

Steps

  • At 1:28am go to bed, wearing plain white clothing.
  • Lie down and act like you’re sleeping. Keep your eyes closed until you hear whispers coming from the doorway.
  • Say, ‘come to me, I want to talk.’ The door should open and you will suddenly fall asleep. If not, you should just go to sleep normally.
  • You should find yourself in a small room, two windows on opposite walls. Outside you will see darkness. Sometimes it may be raining blood, on other occasions there may be other nightmarish visions, but don’t spend too long looking outside. Inside the room there should be a table and two chairs, the walls and floors may be liberally coated in blood.
  • Sit down in the chair closest to you and say, ‘I’m here.’
  • The door should open and something will come. It may be a creature, or a representation of something you greatly fear. However, do not panic.
  • The thing will begin to speak and you must listen without reacting. It may tell you of your future, or refer to traumatic things from the past. You must remain calm or it will attack you. Once it has finished talking it will rest its head onto its right fist.
  • Say, ‘I understand. Am I worthy to know?’
  • It will ask to see your hand. Show it. It should put something in your hand.
  • You should awake at exactly 7am.
  • The item in your hand can be one of four things. If it is a coin then you will have pleasant dreams from then on. If it is a child’s toy then you will dream of your childhood. If it is a key, you will learn secrets through your dreams. If there is nothing at all then you are in great danger and should sleep as little as possible for the next six days. During those six days keep the object with you at all times. To lose it will greatly displease the monster.

How to play

Notes

  • Credit.
  • You must play this with a group of friends.
  • It can only be played at some distance from civilization. If you are not far enough away then this will not work. Ideally this should be played in a forest.
  • At no point during the game are you allowed to leave your friends behind, kill them, or beg for mercy.
  • You cannot end the game early or stop it once it has begun.

Equipment

  • Supplies that will allow you to remain in the game area for a day and night.
  • I would strongly recommend a map and compass and the knowledge to use them.

Steps

  • Memorise the steps in advance.
  • All who are playing should stand in a circle, hands or arms linked and say loudly, ‘we are allies, we wish to game with a worthy opponent. Will no challenger face us?’
  • If the conditions are right you should hear a loud crash nearby, or a branch hitting the ground. Run.
  • Do not get separated from your group. It will try to part you from the others. It likes to pick you off one by one.
  • For one whole day and night you must avoid ‘The Apex’. You and your group are ‘The Herd’. It is clever and crafty: it will stop at nothing to win.
  • Never look at its face. To do so will cause you to lose your memory and/or be paralysed where you stand. Do not attempt to leave the game area before the time is up – it will hunt the players until each of you are dead.
  • Once the game time has elapsed it is time to collect your prize. While leaving the forest you will be greeted by a woman who will ask, ‘are you worthy?’ Answer, ‘am I?’ and say nothing else. If you say yes then your friends will be shot where they stand. Answer no and you will be shot. If you answered correctly then she should hand you a box. Take it before she disappears.
  • Do not look in the box until you are out of the woods and have returned to civilization. Inside there will be something of great value, either to you personally, or humanity in general.
  • It is said no one has ever won.

Safety first

  • Obvious Blair Witch reference. Be careful in the woods, especially if the area is unfamiliar.

Risk level

High – aside from the risk of being hunted, people die in forests all the time through exposure, or simply falling off or over things.

A Halloween Gift (game)

How to play

Notes

  • You can only play this on Halloween and the ritual must be finished by 12:00am.
  • You can play alone or with a friend. Groups of 3 are the maximum.
  • This involves summoning and bargaining with the Dark Father. You do so at your own risk. This seems a game with great risk for little reward, but as always, the choice is yours.
  • This game should never be played inside your home or in a place where someone lives. The Dark Father is a God, not a spirit and is therefore very dangerous (mainly because he is easily offended and has a skewed interpretation of fair).
  • The rules regarding the gift are quite vague. It must not be anything which could be used as a vessel, so no animals (please!), stuffed toys and definitely no dolls. It must belong to you or whoever is playing. It must have been used often by that person and it must be something which they value. You can use more than one gift at a time if more than one person is playing, but the limit is one gift per person.
  • Candles are used to light your work space. I do not advise using a torch or other battery operated device instead. Electrical items and batteries are known to go a bit screwy around Him.
  • The following information is provided for those who offend Him. Whether the gift was deemed unworthy or whether you have offended Him in some other way, you must ensure that he does not gain access to your home. There may be a knock at your door late at night, or a scraping at the window – he is watching and waiting for a chance. To keep him from gaining access it is recommended that you leave him small offerings of food or gifts outside your home, especially at the equinox. You must be on your guard until next Halloween when your bargain is concluded. If you have managed to appease Him throughout the year He will lose interest at this point. If you have made no attempt at appeasement then you will need to watch your back and guard your house for the rest of your life, at least every October 31. Unlike spirits, you cannot banish or trap him. I don’t know of any rituals or defences against an angry God except frantically trying to appease him somehow with food and small presents next Halloween.
    • If he does gain entry then be aware that he likes dark places; beneath the bed, or in the wardrobe and he will wait for you to sleep. If it gets to this point then I cannot offer much advice beyond salt circles. He will either claim whatever he thinks is fair, or he will punish you for your greed/rudeness.
  • If you forgot to turn off your mobile phone during the ritual then you may get a series of interesting, but very disturbing phone calls. This never ends well and you should not make any bargains. The Dark Father may only bargain once every year with the willing, but his agents have much more freedom.

Equipment

  • A small box.
  • A gift that will fit inside the box.
  • Ribbon/wrapping paper.
  • A gift tag.
  • Salt.
  • A pen and paper.
  • Food of some kind.
  • Candles.
  • A lighter/matches.
  • Depending where you play, you may want a torch.
  • A mobile phone (checking reception beforehand).
  • Warm clothing (it is October).
  • Items to decorate the area (optional).

Steps

  • Find somewhere to play. You will have little time on Halloween to set up and complete the ritual. It must have a doorway or archway of some kind. This place should be abandoned.
  • Wrap your gift in advance and make it all pretty. The person making the exchange should write their name on the gift tag (first name only is fine) and attach to the gift.
  • As soon as it is full dark on Halloween you may go to your chosen place. Ensure you have enough time to reach your destination and complete the ritual before midnight.
  • Light your candles – they do not need to be placed in any particular way, they are purely for illumination. If you have a mobile phone with you, TURN IT OFF.
  • Some people like to decorate the space. Anything representing autumn or winter would be good; pumpkins, mistletoe etc.
  • Once you are happy with the space, anyone who is playing should place their gift in the middle of the doorway/archway – it should be around halfway between the inside and outside. The ritual has now begun. No one should step through the doorway from this point – to do so invites possession.
  • Close your eyes and visualize something you want, ideally something physical – a book, tickets to a show. It should be something fairly small – the more unusual the request, the more likely you are to pique His interest. Don’t be greedy. Don’t wish for something of much more value than what you offer in return – no wishing for a mountain bike if you’re offering an old ribbon. This is very important.
  • Say clearly, ‘a gift for a gift.’ You may hear noises at this point – a voice, sometimes whistling or footsteps approaching.
  • Quickly place down the food you have offered. Say immediately, ‘I honor you, Father of all and Father of nothing.’
  • Blow out the candles (only you can prevent forest fires) and IMMEDIATELY leave the area without passing through the doorway/archway.
  • He is always hungry (winter is linked with deprivation). So instead of immediately following you, He will pause to eat the food and inspect the gift.
  • If you forget to put down the food/speak the proper words, or hear the footsteps/whistling following you then you must immediately throw the salt behind you and hurry home. You have offended him somehow and now He is coming. Sit in a salt circle until 12:00am. I advise spending next Halloween inside a salt circle too – hope that he loses interest after that. The Dark Father is ancient and bears grudges. He misses being worshipped and gives tokens, but he was no jolly Santa Claus; He did and does still inspire a lot of fear.
  • If all goes to plan and the previous step does not apply then you can assume your offering has been accepted and you are safe. To be sure of this, before the conclusion of the third day following, you should return to the ritual location and ensure the gift has gone. If it remains then you have somehow offended him, but to a lesser degree. You should sit in a salt circle next Halloween and read the part of the notes section pertaining to your home, particularly the information on appeasement.
  • If the gift has gone then your gift should be delivered at some point after the third day. It is said that your year will be unusually blessed. Should you continue to provide him with food offerings every Halloween then you may gain his favour, this brings more impressive rewards. However, never complete the gift exchange ritual again.
  • If your gift has gone, but no gift is delivered after the third day then it is because what you have asked for is greater than what you have given. He will now attempt to take something else to make it a fair bargain. What he takes will be up to him, but it will likely be something you value. I must warn again, what he considers fair may be far more than you are willing to give, especially to a Hungry God.

  • Always tell someone where you are going and when you will be back. Take a mobile with you just in case.
  • Don’t trespass on private property for obvious reasons and make sure the location is both private and safe.

Doors to the Mind Game

How to play

Notes

  • If a room is filled with clocks or old women then you must leave immediately. The original source doesn’t explain why these are bad things but as this is a psychological experiment I would guess that it is to prevent messing with your concept of time while under hypnosis.
  • Black doors are considered dangerous by some.
  • Not everyone or everything in this world will be nice to you.
  • Some of the messages people give may seem like nonsense, but keep a note of them to refer back to later.
  • Some people have reported meeting a man in a suit who inspires strong feelings of unease at best and malevolence at worst. Although there is no proven danger from this manifestation, the fact that it has occurred across people with no apparent connection implies that if any contact with this figure is established, it is best to immediately end the session. If your helper is not aware of it, you should attempt to avoid him where possible and leave any room in which you find him.
  • You may find that certain doors are locked or barred to you in some way. Check if you have a key, but don’t be too worried if this happens. A lot of people have a part of themselves that they are not ready to confront and will throw barriers in the way.
  • Please note that some people playing this game have reported difficulty in removing themselves or being removed from this dream like state. The original source reports being locked in a room in his mind and his sister having great difficulty in waking him.
  • After you have finished you should check what is on your person, whether it be keys, or anything else that seems symbolic in relation to what you found in your explorations.

Steps

  • Dim the lights and light a few candles for atmosphere if you wish.
  • Set the alarm for one hour from now.
  • Start the recording device.
  • Lay your head (facing up) on the pillow, which should be placed in a friends lap.
  • Close your eyes. Your friend should gently rub both sides of your forehead in slow, circular motions.
  • Once he/she deems you relaxed enough they should say, ‘you are at one end of a very long corridor. There are numerous doors on both sides, spanning the entire length. I want you to explore these doors and the rooms behind them. Describe what you see, hear, touch and feel in great detail.’
  • Always pay attention to the door before opening it as it will hint to what lies within. If there are any visible imperfections, or the door handle is warm or icy cold to the touch then the room is best avoided. Always trust your instincts and if you feel threatened or uncertain don’t open the door.
  • When the alarm goes off, your friend should slowly guide you back to the real world, ensuring that the corridor slowly recedes and all doors opened are closed once more.
  • Turn off the recording device.
  • You may play this game as often as you like. The alarm clock is only necessary for the first few times. After this your friend can determine when you are ready to return. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work the first time, it may take repeated attempts to get you into an appropriately relaxed state.

This is very similar to many forms of hypnosis which can be dangerous when performed by inexperienced people.

Blue Baby Blue

How to play

Notes

  • So, move over Bloody Mary (please, don’t hurt me), there’s a new kid in town.
  • There was once a baby called Blue (no connection to Beyonce). His mother had issues and one day decided she’d had enough. She broke a mirror and stabbed him.
  • Another version of the legend says that the only way to avoid being killed by the infant, or his mother is to know the child’s true name. If you do, then you will be granted one wish. It is said that if you stand outside the bathroom door during the second variation below, then you will hear the mother sobbing for her lost child and sometimes, she will use his name.

Equipment

  • A bathroom with a mirror.

Steps

  • Go to a bathroom, with friends.
  • Fog up the mirror and write ‘baby blue,’ in the mist.
  • Turn off the lights.
  • After a few minutes position your arms as though carrying a small baby. You should feel the weight of a child.
  • Hold him for a few minutes before passing to your nearest friend.
  • He’s a wriggly little thing and if you drop him, you will get a rather nasty scratch on your arm. If you do it a second time, you will get another scratch, this one worse. If you drop him a third time the mirror will break and Baby Blue will kill you. He’s probably teething.
  • Another variation of this story instructs you to say, ‘Blue Baby’, thirteen times while pretending to rock a child in your arms. Once you finish, a baby will appear in your arms and you should immediately drop it and run out of the bathroom. If you don’t, a woman appears in the mirror and will scream, ‘give me back my baby,’ and kill you.
